I believe one can only journey with another once they have walked their own path toward intimacy with God.
Our spiritual journeys are a lifelong journey of discovering our true self in Christ, Who am I? Is the question we seek to answer, its the longing of our heart to know we are loved. I personally have spent the better half of my life searching for a meaningful identity, acceptance and approval of others, and love that would quench my inner loneliness, until the Lord began to transform me from the inside out and to reveal to me that only He can fill the longing of my heart fully and completely.
In her book, Stages of the Soul, Nancy Kane writes:
"At its core, Christian spiritual formation is initiated by God and is the means by which - over our entire lives - our inner hearts and outward behavior are shaped into the image and likeness of Christ, resulting in an increasingly greater love of God and others."
Like peeling back the layers of an onion, the Lord has uncovered layers and layers of untruth I had grown to believe about others and myself. He alone is enough and completes me. But as Paul writes:
"Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me." Philippians 3:12
